With 2 frontispiece portraits, 2 folding maps, and 13 plates (mainly tinted/folding lithograph/chromolithograph views). – First, and complete, edition from the library of Dutch diplomat and bookcollector Jean Charles Pabst (1873-1942), with his bookplate on upper-pastedown. Willem Adriaan van Rees (1820-1898) left the army in 1864, shortly after The Banjarmasin War, and dedicated his time to this extensive and meticulous description. – Bastin & Brommer No. 610; Haks & Maris p. 164. – The large folding map of the eastern and southern section of Borneo with some small tears on folds, partly paper-taped + map, second title and 1st lf loose; lower inner-hinge a bit damaged; otherwise a good and complete copy.
