16.5 x 22 cm. 96 pp. Softcover. Illustrated in b/w throughout. – Suburban homes in Israel; a faint echo of the forms of the ‘ideal city’. Except sometimes they look more like models than real buildings. The series arose in reaction to the large Jewish settlements that were realized in Israel and in the occupied Territories in the 1990s. Shvily captures in her photographs a sense of estrangement arising from the sheer speed that these homes were built with, and that the construction projects are used as a means to occupy territory. – Good copy
